Wesley Lobato Passos
was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1991.
He received his D.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from
COPPE/UFRJ,
Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil,
in 2024.
Previously, he received his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering
also from COPPE/UFRJ in 2019,
and his B.Sc. in Control Systems and Automation Engineering
from the
Federal Center for Technological Education (CEFET-RJ),
Nova Iguaçu, RJ, Brazil, in 2016.
During his undergraduate studies, he participated in an academic
exchange program at the
University of Georgia (UGA),
and took part in a summer research project at the
Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT),
both in the United States, through the Brazilian exchange program
Science Without Borders from 2014 to 2015.
He received the Google Latin American Research Award in 2019
and 2020 for the project on detecting potential
Aedes aegypti mosquito breeding grounds using computer
vision and machine learning techniques.
Since 2024 he is a Professor with the
Control Systems and Automation Engineering Department,
and since 2025 a collaborating professor in the Graduate Program
in
Electrical
Engineering (PPEEL), both
at the
CEFET-RJ.
He is a member of the
Institute of Electric and Electronic
Engineers (IEEE): IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS),
IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS), IEEE Young Professionals (YP),
and the
Brazilian Telecommunication Society (SBrT).
He has a background in Instrumentation, Control, and
Industrial Automation projects.
His research interests include Computer Vision,
Machine Learning, and Signal Processing.
